MŌ MĀTOU

Te Kura Kaupapa Māori O Takapau is a Kaupapa Māori kura and is located in Takapau, which is a rural township on SH 2, in the rohe of Tamatea Arikinui, Central Hawkes Bay. Students come from Otane in the north to Takapau in the south. It has a decile rating of 3.

It is staffed by a Teaching Principal and a Permanent teacher. The board employ a Pouako Tautoko to assist each teacher with their classroom programmes and also employs an administrator, cleaner and a bus driver. The Board of Trustees continues to support the whānau in their endeavour to provide the best education possible for the tamariki mokopuna of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Takapau.

The Kura has an emphasis and commitment to developing fluency in Te Aho Matua whilst strengthening knowledge and active participation to the ever evolving digital era our tamariki have been born into.

Funds are budgeted annually to our cyclical maintenance reserve. We are a decile 3 school but with the economic situation of most of our students, I feel that this is an unfair disadvantage put on the school.

Our Kura is linked to all four local Kohanga, Ōtane, Waipawa, Waipukurau and Te Rongopai Kohanga Reo. Unfortunately, in recent years only a small percentage of our mokopuna from all four Kohanga Reo who graduate do attend Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Takapau.

The Kura has a really special link with our own Kohanga Reo “Te Rongopai” We often attend functions together and meet frequently to discuss the development of students and to share ideas and resources.

The grounds are still being developed to support playtime activities. Equipment in our sports shed has been growing rapidly and children are well occupied by the aforesaid equipment. Trees that were recently planted to enhance the school grounds and to provide shading in the summer are thriving with the care that is lavished on them. There has been a brick wall erected to enhance student ball skills. Recreation programmes and resources are underway to ensure that a wide variety of choices are available to teachers and students.

Regular reviews ensure that the total environment is safe for all those who work within the Kura environment.
